1 How can I apply for a member card?


The member card is supplied after users apply for it by completing an application form with their personal details. Users can apply for a member card at the Reference Desk and must have their identity card or driving license. European citizens must have with them their allien card.

The card is personal and is not transferable to others.

2 What are the working hours of the Cyprus Library?


Winter Schedule (September-June)
Monday-Thursday 7.45 - 17.15
Friday 7.45 - 14.15

Summer Schedule (July-August)
Monday-Friday 7.45 - 14.15

3 Does the Library have the daily newspapers?


The Library has the daily newspapers which are kept at the Reference Department.

4 How can I have access to the collections of other Libraries?


Users can search other catalogues through the links Open Access Catalogues and Links.

5 How many books can I borrow and for how long?


Users can borrow up to three books for three weeks.

6 How can I renew the books which I have borrow?


The renewal may be made at the Reference Desk in personal or by phone, provided that the book has not been requested or reserved for another user and is not overdued. Users have the right for up 3 renewals.

7 Can I make photocopies?


There is a photocopy machine at the Central Building and the Reference Department of the Cyprus Library, where users either prepaid magnetic cards, sold by the personnel of the Library or pay simultaneously for each copy respectively.

There are two different cards, whose value is €1.77 and €4.41 respectively.

8 How can I be informed about the new acquisitions fo the Library?


An announcement of the new books is presented at the home page of the Library's website.

9 Can I suggest a book for the Library collection?


Suggestions for new material can be made by the users by completing a form. The form will be checked and then forwarded for order.

10 Does Library has audio-visual material?


Library has digital disks (CDs, DVDs), videotapes, microfilm.

11 Can I borrow audio-visual material?


A part of the collection is available for lending.

12 What do I do if a book is lost or destroyed?


The book must be replaced.

13 What is the policy for donating books or other material to the Library?


The Cyprus Library is happy to consider donations in order to enrich its collections. Acceptance of items will always be in accordance with the overall collection development policy of the Library. Duplicates of items are forwared to other libraries.

14 I'm interested in book or journal article which is not held within the Library. What can I do?


You can use the Interlibrary Loan service of the Library. For more information contact Mrs Joanna Eliades at the Central Building.

15 Is there a catalog of the journals?


The majority of the periodicals can be searched in the library's catalogue where the issues of each title can be seen. Furthermore, the user can find at which building are kept.

16 Can I borrow journals/newspapers?


Journals and newspapers are not borrowed.

17 Which books can be borrowed?


The material which has the sign R (reference) are not for loan. This material is located at the Reference Department.

18 Do you plan educational seminars and tours in the Library?

19 Are there any old issues of daily press in the Library?


The Library has a collection of old issues on microfilm. The collection covers issues fo the last decade. Issues of older newspapers are held at the Reference Department also and cover the 19th and 20th century.
